Choose Intel or move to AMD 7800X3D for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Recent performance: Intel i5-12400F paired with RTX 3050 and other components. I'm diving into MSFS and planning City Skylines 2, which is demanding. My current rig handles high settings in rural areas but struggles with scenery and airplanes near big cities like NYC or LA, dropping to 30 FPS and stuttering. I’m considering upgrading to a GPU like the 4080 Super for smoother gameplay. For CPU, I’m unsure if sticking with Intel is best—13900K or 14900K might be too much compared to past models. Or should I switch to AMD and check out X3D CPUs such as 7800X3D or 7950X3D? AMD looks strong in benchmarks, but would it really make a difference with my setup? Any tips would help, especially since you’re also an MSFS player.
Latest reports suggest Cities Skylines 2 is largely unresponsive, with no available CPU solutions on the market. MSFS appears capable of handling demanding GPUs, and more VRAM seems to be a key factor for serious players. The community is focusing on the 4090. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/63624...enchmarks/
The CPU seems fine in its current state. I didn’t anticipate it being a major bottleneck when using a 4080 or 4090.
My investigations point toward the AMD 7800 X3D as a strong choice. The main concern is whether upgrading to an AMD platform justifies a new motherboard, or if sticking with Intel options like the 13900K or 14900K makes more sense. It seems the 7800 X3D offers better gaming performance and cooler operation. For a suitable motherboard, I’d recommend something compatible with its architecture.
