You're considering two options for your next build: Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 3600. Since you'll be gaming and also editing videos in Adobe Premiere, think about performance needs. Your RTX 2070 graphics card will help with gaming, but for video editing you'll want a CPU that handles multitasking well. Let me know your thoughts!

Aim for the 3600 now, but plan for a new model to replace it next year. Choose this one instead.

The 2700x performs slightly better than 3600, which in turn is marginally superior to the 2700x in gaming scenarios.

You're thinking about buying a used CPU and checking if the newer model fits your £140 budget. But you're also questioning whether it'll actually work.

Based on your patience level, you could grab a second-hand 3700x for £200 when the new batch arrives and becomes available.

The 3600 performs better than the 2700x in most scenarios unless it's designed for heavy multithreading. In that scenario, the 3600 offers an advantage.

I also suggest this choice. A pre-owned Ryzen 3000 model will increase supply in the used segment after the 4000 series is revealed.

It really hinges on the funds available by March next year. If I can buy a R7 3700x, that’s my choice. Otherwise, I’d consider a 3600 or 3600x, or maybe even a 3600xt.

The cost variation between them rarely justifies it. Choose the regular 3600 unless you spot the x and xt near identical prices.
