both options are presently priced similarly for me. Upgrading from i7 3770k is popular for many titles. The most played games include civ 5/6, witcher 3, fortnite, weapons forge, citra emulator, 3ds games, cyberpunk 2077, anaconda library, python with ip, kite autocad eagle, pcb design, arduino, simulink, hit, film express, and obs.
Budget? What are their prices for? The 1600af or 3300x? If that's your sole choice, likely the 1700 might be better—depends on project size if you value extra cores. IPC difference isn't significant. Edited June 22, 2020 by TofuHaroto
2600 offers a slight edge for gaming, while 1700 provides a minor boost for productivity. I’d pick the one that suits more—maybe 3000 or the 4000 when it arrives. That way you enjoy the strengths of both.
1600af isn't available. My budget breaks down like this: INR 30K for total upgrades, INR 10K for the 10k, INR 11K for 2600, and about INR 18K for 3600. That means I’d have to cut back on the motherboard and RAM a lot, possibly skipping it entirely, and might switch to R7 4700 or R5 4600 next year.
I don’t understand the value in dollars, but if you’re mostly gaming and the project size is average, go with 3300x if possible. If you can’t afford it, choose 1700. For using your PC mainly for multi-threaded tasks and light gaming, aim for 2600 for a good balance.
Hold on, 1700 or 2600 won't be a major jump compared to your current setup for games. If you modify the 3770K to around 4.6ghz, it could actually perform better than the 1700 in gaming.
