You're focusing solely on performance, not cost.

Identify your processor model first. Intel Core i9-12900K or AMD Ryzen 9 5950X.

5800x3d is probably the top choice for gaming CPUs, but its cost-performance ratio isn't the clear winner.

I’d prefer a stronger CPU with better efficiency, but if you need maximum performance, the I9 with the 5950X can run about half as much power while still delivering solid speed.

Recommends AMD for power constraints and Intel for maximum performance. Your choice will depend on your specific needs. Edited July 15, 2022 by Furball159.

Sorry everyone, my initial message came across as unclear. To be honest, the first part was meant as a joke, but if you're after a strong CPU for a high budget, go with a top-tier thread ripper. I’m not sure what I’m talking about, but it’s clearly better than a core i9. Options include an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (YD295XA8AFWOF) or an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX (YD297XAZAFWOF), or the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X (32 cores, 64 threads). Prices vary a lot based on your budget, so it’s up to you. For the best experience, consider one of these powerful processors.

these are really powerful processors and aren't ideal for gaming. You don't need 32 cores to play games—they won't perform well. What matters more is the power consumption; the 5950 uses around 150-180 watts, while the I9 draws over 300 watts. If you're okay with a huge power supply and water cooling, the 5950X is better. However, if you're looking for something more practical, the Ryzen 5800X3D is a solid choice.

Avoid Threadripper and especially the second generation for a gaming setup. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articl...ndup-2248/ https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articl...-Gen-1629/ 12900k outperforms the 3970x in many multi-thread tasks while using less power than the 3970x. Quantity isn’t the only factor; performance per cycle and timing matter most. For a gaming-focused build without breaking the bank, a 12700k with 3080 12gb would be difficult to surpass.
