The latest update shows the performance gap between PCiE 3 and PCie 4 for the 3000 series is almost nonexistent (see Reddit discussion). For choosing between the Asus AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus and ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming B550-Plus, or looking for another solid option under $160, feel free to share your thoughts. Thanks for the input! They should all perform well. I've always preferred Gigabyte. Consider the features you require to make that decision. Any of them can handle a 6-core CPU easily. Plus, the R5 3600 often offers better value compared to the 3600X if you haven't already purchased it.
the x570 boards require 12 sic639s, while the b550 needs 8, making it about 160 dollars. you might also consider the b550 a pro or the aorus elite, which are solid options. the b550 also supports gen 4, whereas the chipset itself is gen 3.
Since the price gap is minimal, it's logical to keep going with the 3600X.
The 4000 series is expected around the end of this year, possibly featuring Zen 3.
Yep I had heard that as well. The rumor mill has said that Zen 3 enterprise (which was known) AND consumer chips (which is the rumor) are supposed to release before the end of the year. Another rumor had said Zen 3 will be AM4 compatible, and a 3rd rumor said the top end chip (4950x?) will reach a boost clock of 5 GHz. Please put a thick grain of salt on these being rumors.
It seems the NVidia I/O update could really boost performance, possibly matching the improvements in upcoming consoles. I guess having zero load times would be way more thrilling than anything else for gaming. I’ll have to keep an eye on the developments.
