Hello everyone. I’m seeking feedback on the best CPU choice for gaming. Right now I have a Ryzen 5 2600 with a 1080 Ti and 3200Mhz RAM, paired with an ASRock X470 Gaming K4 board. I’m considering either upgrading to a Ryzen 7 3700X or switching to an Intel i7-9700K. The main concern is budget. I can afford both options, but I don’t want to overspend and I’m unsure if the more expensive one will actually deliver value since an Intel upgrade would also require a new motherboard. The Ryzen 7 is available for around $400, while the Intel i7-9700K costs about $460 plus $220 for a board, totaling $680. Someone could share their thoughts on which option might be better. I’ve watched some videos, but a few seem questionable—I’d appreciate any advice.
On an x470 board aimed at gaming, the most cost-effective boost would come from installing an R5 3600. The 3700x doesn’t provide significantly more performance compared to the 3600 for gaming purposes. Alternatively, leveraging the 2700x offers a solid upgrade at a lower price right now, both under $200. I’m not fully sure a 2600 would severely limit your 1080ti’s potential, so upgrading your CPU wouldn’t necessarily give you noticeable gains either way.
Get the 3700X model. Gaming impact will be small, especially at 1440p. Where are you located?
The 3700C stands out as the best option. Charging over 50% more for a CPU that runs slower, hotter, uses more power and lacks security is unreasonable. Also, the i7 model is outdated, while the X470 can run Ryzen 4000 next year because it supports AM4.
What kind of gaming are you interested in? And for how long do you need it to work?
Let me state this again did not push enough how dum getting 9700 would be in your situation. You already got the AM4 mobo and 9700 will give you like <5% improvements in SOME games and even your Ryzen you have today ist faster in every other app by a huge chunk and more future prove. Get 3700x and be happy with it switiching to blue makes 0 sense in your situation
