Choose between Ryzen 3600 and delay for Zen 3 release.
Hello everyone, I was thinking about getting a new gaming PC as soon as possible once I have access to an RTX 3070. I also wanted to make sure Zen 3 would be available then, but it seems unlikely. Should I opt for a Ryzen 5 3600 now or hold off until Zen 3 arrives? I worry the 3600 might become a performance bottleneck.
The 3600 shouldn't cause delays. The main reason to hold off is that you might find something even better once Zen 3 comes out. Still, you can always consider swapping it later on the used market. You won't get your full investment back, but you won't be entirely left with no choice if you think it's worth upgrading.
The Ryzen 5 3600 works well alongside even the 2080 TI in current titles, meaning you won’t face performance issues unless the 3070 underperforms the 2080 TI significantly.
Zen 3 was once thought to launch in September 2020, but it appears AMD may have delayed it slightly, now mentioning "late 2020." For certain, the 3600 won't become a major performance issue in most games.
Stream at 1440p works well, as 3070 is believed to be around 2080 ti level, and currently 3600 handles that resolution smoothly.
If the 3070 reaches 2080 Ti, I wouldn't be concerned at 4K, around 5% at most in CPU-heavy titles, and at 1080p I’d hold off until Zen 3.
I intend to keep using 1080p at 144Hz for a while now, as I recently acquired this monitor.
