I previously played Runescape extensively from late 2006 until around 2011. I watched a recent documentary about the game for its 15th anniversary, which inspired me to revisit it or try again. However, I stopped after RS3. While I adapted to the new combat mechanics, I think the game's simplicity was lost due to its stark differences from what I expected. I'm thinking of trying OSRS now because the newer graphics seem overly ambitious, whereas earlier RS2 (OSRS) visuals were iconic even if less realistic.

The game’s economy is a bit off and there are fewer quests, which is why I still play RS3 from time to time. Also, I’m not feeling the urge to keep grinding those levels.

RS2 stands out for me. Their most recent version is also impressive. I’m not someone who chases maximum stats, but I enjoy assisting players with their tasks and adventures.

Old school stands out as possibly the best MMORPG I've ever enjoyed. It truly reflects what Runescape could have been; not RS3.
