These are both excellent and widely recognized versions of Linux, but I prefer Ubuntu since it’s more intuitive. It really depends on your needs.

It varies based on the specific Ubuntu version you're considering. For older systems, Ubuntu Mate and Lubuntu work well, though I think they’re among the more limited options. Xubuntu is also decent, but Linux Mint XFCE seems better for beginners. Ubuntu Budgie could be a future option. Linux Mint is a solid pick, but it all comes down to personal taste. There are countless good distributions available, and many different desktop environments to choose from. It really depends on what you prefer.

Technically, it's nearly identical. They arrived with various desktop settings and a collection of built-in applications. You can add Cinnamon and themes to Ubuntu, making it resemble Mint.
