Xubuntu is also decent, but Linux Mint XFCE seems better for beginners. Ubuntu Budgie could be a future option. Linux Mint is a solid pick, but it all comes down to personal taste. There are countless good distributions available, and many different desktop environments to choose from. It really depends on what you prefer.
