If it's for school then he only needs a charger. The mac trackpads are soooooo good. There's wifi everywhere on school so google drive is more than sufficient. Unless the software demands windows, then a mac is fine if that's the preferance of OP. I'd go for a 1000~ dollar windows though.

I completely understand the trackpads. At school, teachers often ask you to bring assignments to USB drives, etc. I rely on my laptop to charge my phone most days. Look for something with a solid input capacity. I still use a 2012 Dell E6430 for school/university, and keeping all those cables, cases, and accessories from people’s Macs results in the same size and weight as my old machine, just with the drawback of being split up.

You can use one USB-C to A adapter, or opt for a dual-interface flash drive. Alternatives include Samsung T3/T5 models with a Type C to Type C cable.

Absolutely, that's impressive! Your MacBook Pro from 2009 handling GTA V smoothly at 800X600 with 30 FPS shows great performance. Rocket League also runs well in 1080p.
