I've been thinking about purchasing a new high-end CPU, aiming for something solid with the i7/ryzen7 and 4080/7080 options. I think a 7080 would be better since the 4080 feels outdated. When choosing CPUs, I've noticed a few challenges—especially with Intel, they might change their socket designs and platforms, requiring a new motherboard for future upgrades. On the other hand, AMD boards tend to last longer, possibly another three to four generations. The main concern is that today's Ryzen chips aren't as powerful as Intel's, and the current AMD boards are quite pricey. Does this weigh your decision?

Consider what offers the best current value, avoid chasing future promises. Even AMD’s threadripper socket claims multiple generations, yet they introduced a completely new design for the latest generation, leaving compatibility questions open.

It's accurate that AMD offers better longevity versus Intel, while Intel provides superior performance but shorter lifespan. I’d hold off and observe what develops next, since drivers and updates can significantly boost AMD CPUs. Intel remains more affordable, so if you really need a CPU, go with Intel; otherwise, wait for AMD’s future developments.

I believe this Gen Intel model will dominate until the 7xxx3d releases, and it doesn’t seem like you’ll be opting for 5800x3d+ddr4. The choice is obvious.

The upcoming Ryzen x3d processors will outperform Intel's offerings. Their power usage is significantly lower than AMD's, and if you wait for AMD's release, you could find the non-3dx model at a better price than today.
