However, will it remain sufficient in duration and strength to work well with something like an upcoming (unreleased) RTX 3080?

You should consider an Intel i5 from the tenth generation if you have the budget. Just ensure your GPU can handle the workload. What kind of games are you planning to play?

Yes, an i5 with the 3080 core is adequate for everyday tasks and light gaming.

we haven't confirmed the 3080's details yet, but i think this setup could deliver a solid 240+ frame performance.

Consider getting a 10600K processor, a Z490 Tomahawk or Gaming Edge Wi-Fi, plus some 3600MHz CL16 or 3200MHz CL14 RAM. 16GB should cover your gaming needs.

What display resolution are you planning to use? 1080p offers good performance for high FPS but can be challenging in Unity or development environments. You might settle for a 1440p setting as a compromise, and depending on the games you play, you could face GPU limitations. I recommend choosing an AMD model if possible. If you're starting out with Unity, you may end up exploring other options too—appreciate the versatility of a multi-core processor more than just the slight FPS boost. Just a note, my experience shows that team red has been a solid choice for me.
