DisplayPort sends video and audio together, not just video. It supports both data and audio streams simultaneously.

Display port is recommended since otherwise you'd be losing money (just 60 hz). Appreciate the question!

I was planning to replace my monitor, but the one I want lacks a display port. Should HDMI or DVI be the better choice?

DisplayPort supports audio as well. When choosing a connection, having the appropriate cable and compatible devices makes DisplayPort a strong option. Even if it only includes HDMI and DVI, it’s likely a typical 1080p display that doesn’t require the extra bandwidth of DisplayPort. If your monitor has speakers and you intend to use them, HDMI is necessary because DVI doesn’t transmit audio. Generally, there’s minimal distinction between the two unless you need specific features.

It handles audio, Ethernet, and all other HDMI functions, plus more in most situations. HDMI outperforms the other options unless you're planning to overclock the display.
