Choose between HDMI and DP for your new configuration.
HDMI isn't the best choice—it's more suited for laptops than high-speed needs. DP HDMI doesn't support 144Hz, and a 390Hz option might be better.
DisplayPort provides 144Hz, whereas HDMI is limited to 60Hz at 1080p. You might want to think about the R9-390 rather than the 970 for a better option.
I submitted my vote for the 390 with extra RAM and top performance. The Nitro option is excellent. You're using HDMI on a 60Hz display, but please adhere to the recommendations provided.
Use the DP because HDMI is limited to 1080p at 60 FPS (or 4K if you need higher). [change 970 to 390 as requested]
Thanks for the assistance. I need to get a DP cable. Also, I’m unlikely to switch back to the 970; I rely on NVidia because of my older hardware, and I understand AMD can have issues, so I’d prefer not to face that.
This applies directly to your comments about display connections. DP offers the top choice, HDMI is the next best, and HDMI 2.0 supports high resolutions and refresh rates. HDMI 1.4 handles 1080p at 120Hz, while DVI is limited to 2560x1600 at 60Hz. You can modify a DVI link if needed. If you don’t have an analog screen, avoid VGA unless it’s truly necessary.
