Planning a PC build for this year with 1440p gaming and 1080p video editing. Is 32GB RAM sufficient now, especially since next-gen consoles use 16GB? I’m considering the extra $80 to ensure it stays relevant if future games demand more memory. I also want flexibility in case I need more later.
You might discover 32 useful tips during editing, based on your process and volume. For games, differences won't be noticeable.
If your tasks require heavy memory use, you can handle it with 32 gigs. For big projects like editing or gaming, 16 gigs should suffice.
I don’t believe my tasks are that demanding. I’m not sure, but right now I think my 8GB isn’t enough for editing. My software seems to be using all my RAM. The games that start on PS5 appear to need more than 12GB of RAM. Since the consoles have 16GB or more, it makes sense.
For my needs, you can clearly observe the distinction. It's amazing.
I meant it in terms of performance. I don’t mind the look, but I’m worried about wasting $80 later if the RAM doesn’t work properly.
Keep in mind that the console shares its RAM with the GPU, which means a direct comparison isn't accurate. If budget allows, opt for 32GB. I currently have 16GB, and based on my usage—running multiple word programs and browsers with over 100 tabs open, plus launching a game—I often reach capacity. I plan to upgrade to 32GB next time. RAM costs a small portion of the overall build price compared to the difference in amounts. If you're not sure, choose the higher option.
