Don't misunderstand, the 4090 stands out more than anything else. Nvidia really let down their customers who spent on the 2080TI and 3090/Ti. This card actually outperforms everything else significantly, while the 2080Ti and 3090/Ti were just modest improvements. This one truly delivers maximum performance. It's just expensive. My point is, if you're investing in something like a Ferrari (or getting one), don't skimp on the essentials—fuel, tires, brakes, etc. The 4090 is by far the best graphics card available. If you own it, go all out with the rest. Or treat yourself to a Ferrari upgrade—I won't say anything else. And I get it if CPUs are similar and you're using 4K. Save money where you can.
It could be even worse; you might have missed a better option when they released it. You're paying for FPS linearly with a 4090, making it a solid value if you're being realistic about it. At least in the Nvidia range. The 7900xtx offers some of that same performance at a lower price, though it takes away from its appeal. I'm really impressed with this card—it feels like the 1080Ti. It's an impressive amount for the era, and it delivers well. Enjoy the performance, sir. Prioritize FPS over cost.
I wouldn't consider upgrading a CPU that's just two generations old. The improvement in performance isn't substantial enough to warrant the expense. On the other hand, I only replace my graphics card every other generation. When comparing the 13700KF and 13900KF, if you're uncertain whether the 13900K is necessary, you likely don't need it.
I was never considering the 13900kf. It was the 13600kf vs 13700kf BUT maybe you are right. I mean my golden rule has always been, only upgrade when there's something you want to do that you cant. And... I can't say that right now. Everything I want to run, runs fine. Maybe I'd be better off waiting a generation or two until ddr5 becomes more stable and affordable, and wait till the cpu upgrade would be more significant (50%+). There is a couple quirks with my system, like the gpu only running on 8x lanes, which was part of my motivation for upgrading, but tbh the difference with that is probably negligible. Its gen 4 so still plenty of bandwidth. I already ordered the cooler but I could always use it on my current cpu, maybe get some better boost clocks.
