Hey! For your first gaming build, comparing the X570 and B550 to the B450 is a good idea. Both of these chips are strong choices for Xbox PCs, but the B550 generally offers better performance than the B450, especially in demanding games. The X570 is also solid, though slightly less so than the B550. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, the B550 usually provides a noticeable upgrade over the B450 while staying compatible with Xbox hardware. Let me know if you need more details!

They won’t improve performance further. Many budget-friendly boards under $100 can still support a 6-core processor.

No improvement in performance. Identical results. The main change is PCI-e gen 4 compatibility, only available on the most recent SSDs. Other components don’t use it yet. Another key advantage is improved compatibility with upcoming CPUs. B550 will fully support 4000 series processors and possibly later models. (B450 won’t until a BIOS update, which will follow CPU release and depend on the motherboard maker.) Honestly, B550 shouldn’t cost more, so if you wait, opt for it. I’m hearing a June 16th release date for B550 boards—stick around. https://www.anandtech.com/show/15810/amd...ing-online

No, the results will remain consistent. If you're aiming for better performance, a more affordable motherboard is acceptable.

I’m starting from scratch on this topic, even though I’ve studied a lot. It’s tough to figure out which information really matters for my goals. I’m planning a gaming PC within a £1000-£1500 budget and need to stay updated since tech changes quickly. Coming from an Xbox One, I’m confident I can build a setup that looks better than the original. I want to avoid buying items I won’t use. My target is 1080p or even 1440p gaming.

Noticing the B550 arriving soon and its price aligning with the B450, it makes sense to opt for the B450 now. Ongoing support for upgrades remains crucial in the tech industry. You'll access those newer capabilities without spending much more.

I noticed the costs are expected to rise above the B450 range, with some reaching up to £260. That’s why I’m inquiring since it depends on whether PCI e 4.0 is required before deciding if the X570 is the right choice.

PCIe 4 isn't essential. If you locate a reasonably affordable B550, it's still a good choice for future compatibility. However, if you don't intend to upgrade in the next four years or so, opting for a B450 will have no noticeable impact. (In four years, the B550 won't support newer CPUs either, likely)
