After upgrading to Windows 10, the key is linked to your Microsoft account. During the OS setup, it will request the key twice—once during installation and again when configuring profiles and preferences. I skipped both prompts and opted for a local account instead. Once I connected the internet, it didn’t ask for the key; it retrieved it from the motherboard.
