Choose Linux distribution of your choice (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc.) along with VLC and a VLC remote. Alternatively, configure a remote desktop setup to manage it from another machine.

Ensure you have Windows XP Media Center installed. You can use an IR or wireless remote to adjust settings. A dedicated remote for XP Media Center exists. Windows 10 presents too many issues for me to recommend. I plan to switch to Linux for better reliability.

I believe your OS hasn't been updated correctly, since your system can still run Windows 10 despite the CPU being a bit outdated. I don't know if it's single-core or dual-core; if it's dual-core, it should work fine because I'm using a dual-core multithread CPU (i5 Haswell Mobile). Probably the issue lies in the multithreading aspect.

Just a quick update, the only two spare hard drives I had are now dead. Until I get new ones, this project is on hold. It’s still going on, even though it’s only been a month. I now have 2GB of RAM, although it dropped to 1GB temporarily because I needed it for another important project. I also don’t have any speakers for the audio machine anymore. The CPU is quite old, but it’s a dual-core processor. I still love Windows XP and have fond memories of it, but I prefer Linux because of compatibility issues with Spotify. Win 10 is powerful, but it has a lot of problems and I can’t use it. That’s why I stick with Windows 7, even though it’s not free.
