Hey there. I'm a pastor, and my music director asked me to check his USB drive for possible fixes. Whenever it connects to a computer, it requests a format. This is exactly what happened to me. I suspect he might have damaged the drive somehow—maybe he disconnected it improperly. I've tried various methods to recover the files, such as using chkdsk /r and chkdsk /p /r, but nothing worked. I also experimented with other tools. In short, I think a partition recovery software would be best, though I'm not familiar with them. I don’t want to install programs that could contain malware. Do you have any recommendations or alternative ideas I should consider? Thanks!
These two tools are the best options available. They offer similar features and are completely free to use.
You may manage the drive via Windows without trying to restore the information. Launch File Explorer, then select “This PC” in the left section. You’ll notice your connected drives listed under “Devices and drives.” Right-click the USB drive and choose “Format.” To retrieve lost files, boot from a Linux live disk and transfer the data onto the hard drive or another storage device.
