I’m searching for a Linux distribution ideal for web development and programming. Arch Linux hasn’t caught my attention because of the installation and setup challenges.

If you call this a 'hassle' then anything else than ubuntu is not for you.

I often rely on Fedora for programming due to its strong performance, compact storage compatibility, and broad compiler support. (For instance, i386 OS development requires building a compiler, and it includes grub-mkrescue which proves extremely useful during OS work.)

Arch Linux is a recommendation I consistently make. If you ever reconsider the setup process, definitely try it out. Besides that, most distributions work well for development, but if you need the latest features, Fedora and Manjaro are excellent choices.

I'll probably go with a fedora first. Thanks!

that's a pretty big downer for arch for most people beyond that.. it kinda comes down to preferences. - ubuntu is the easy way out - - theres the vareous *buntu's if you want a different look - fedora is actually surprisingly lightweight and powerful, yum just never appealed to me - i hate linux mint, whatever i try to do with it fails. - there's some arch derivatives that make it less painful to install, and pacman & yaourt are godlike.

When it comes to choosing a platform, OpenBSD already includes everything needed for web development right away.

Software isn't specifically designed for any one distribution. I work with PyCharm, an IDE that runs across platforms, not just Linux. If you require better Docker integration, it might vary. Generally, any distribution can be used for web development and programming, depending on your system preferences, distro quality, ease of use, and support.
