I own an xps m1710 17-inch gaming monitor, it looks great and the performance is solid, but it runs on a dual-core CPU with 2 gigabytes of RAM and a 7900gs graphics card. I attempted to use Windows 7 32-bit, yet YouTube still lags even at 480p resolution. Could there be a way to switch from the YouTube player to something like Flash or HTML5, or would a lighter operating system be necessary for smoother 720p streaming?

What browser are you using? My C2D Lenovo struggles to run 720p YouTube. You didn’t bother, you just got an i5 laptop.

It seems the GPU might not be sufficient. Could you clarify which C2D model you're using?

You might want to explore other Linux distributions that could suit your needs better.

Consider options like t8100 or t9300; they're quite affordable.

Watch everything in the best quality available, at least 720p resolution.

Absolutely, the GPU is still pretty bad. You can buy a 512MB Quadra for over $100 on eBay, so it doesn’t seem like a good deal.
