I was considering purchasing a MSI PRO B550M-VC WIFI for my NAS build. I chose it because it offered 8 SATA ports and fit a Node 804 with its MATX design. Since I have a spare 5600X, I opted for the AM4 socket. While researching operating systems, I noticed most recommend ECC support for NAS devices. However, the B550M-VC doesn’t have ECC capabilities. I discovered the MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI (CEC) is very similar, featuring a different wireless NIC and ECC support. It uses the same BIOS. I’m hoping to confirm if anyone has successfully implemented ECC on a B550M-VC—though I’ve already ordered it and can return it if needed. Appreciate any guidance!

For a non-critical NAS there’s no requirement for ECC. A mini-ITX N100 motherboard is a good choice. You can usually find it for less than 100 euros locally, and it comes with both the motherboard and CPU already soldered on.

It works with any option. My system uses a gigabyte b550 chip with standard RAM. As before, for non-essential tasks you don’t require extra features. Your preference should be acceptable.
