I'm evaluating an upgrade for my R7 3700X using a motherboard from the x570 line. I'm considering swapping it with either a 5600X or a 5800X to stay compatible with my high-refresh-rate monitor. While the jump isn't huge, I'm curious about which CPU would be best for gaming purposes. The recent changes in core count and pricing have made me a bit uncertain. If I opt for the 5600X, would I be sacrificing productivity for better gaming performance?

I really don't believe any upgrade is necessary, but if you did, I think the 5800x would be the better choice. It performs well across most categories.

Consider upgrading only when the latest AM4 chips arrive in a year or so, and opt for a more affordable option. What is your monitor's resolution and refresh rate? Which GPU are you using? For top gaming performance, the 5600x is recommended. If your system handles heavy multitasking often, the 5800x may be preferable. Still, the 5600x is similar to the 3700x in performance for tasks reliant on cores. Nonetheless, I’d hold off on upgrading right now—it’s not urgent at the moment.
