Chip failure in ASM1480 during M.2 installation
A few days back I installed a LGA SSD M.2, but something went wrong—I’m not sure what caused it. My system still boots and everything seems okay. These two components seem to be the issue? Also, the SSD M.2 is still working fine with the SATA drives, and my motherboard is an ASUS ROG Strix B350-F. Here’s a link to the post below:
They were PCIe switches, and the SSD was probably a standard one. Did you try to install it backwards?
PCIe or SATA? Give model numbers when asked. Yes the chip is used to direct the PCIe signals either to the m.2 slot or to somewhere else, likely one of the PCIe slots. That slot would be dead too now. If chip gets hot get motherboard replaced before it develops into a full short and burns or kills other components.
Thanks for the details. The system is still functioning properly and boots up correctly. Some users report PCIe not working, but my setup remains stable. My M.2 slot isn’t compatible either. It seems like something might have changed recently—consider checking for updates or contacting support.
