Checking video memory usage on an RTX 3080
I recently purchased a new 3080 graphics card and it tends to crash during extended gaming sessions. In both Chivalry and Control, it happens whenever playtime exceeds 15 minutes. Temperatures are normal, and usage isn’t reaching maximum limits since it has 10 GB of VRAM. Anyone else experiencing similar problems? Might it be due to the motherboard auto-overclocking while I was setting up the PC? Should I turn it off?
What games are you playing? 10GB isn't enough for 4K resolution. Consider simplifying your graphics settings, especially texture quality.
It crashes in several titles. You're currently running at a specific resolution. Are these games primarily indie titles? Have you performed any tests to verify this? Additionally, did you buy the GPU new or used?
It seems the games tend to freeze after about 15-20 minutes regardless of the title. The resolution is 1080p, which doesn’t appear to be the main problem. I’ve checked the temperatures to see if overheating is the cause, but I’m not sure how else to test it. I bought a used copy.
I tried something that might help, turned on XMP on the motherboard, but after restarting the PC it wouldn’t power up. I removed it, put it back in a different slot, and it’s now working properly.
Remove one RAM stick and test it with only one stick. Check stability when using just a single stick in the machine, and try each stick separately to see which works best.
Consider uninstalling DDU for GPU drivers, then installing the latest GeForce Experience drivers. Make sure all system drivers are updated as well. If problems persist, the GPU might be faulty—especially if it's used. As a final step, check the BIOS/firmware and disable XMP/overclocking temporarily. If memory changes don't resolve the crashes, the issue is likely with the GPU itself.
