I was handling some cable connections after installing a new power supply and was dozing off, so I didn't notice the PC was running. I secured a cable tie behind the CPU area and the system restarted itself. Once I came back online, Aura Sync couldn't control any of the RGB lighting in the case—everything remained blue even though it wasn't set to blue initially. After manually rebooting the PC, it functioned properly again. Given it's a newer motherboard, do you think I might have caused lasting damage that could become apparent later? It seems okay now, but people are sharing different opinions about what happened.
The MB will receive only 3.3, 5, and 12 volts from the power source. Static discharge may reach thousands of volts. It's likely the hand was conductive enough to trigger a short in the motherboard. Harm seems unlikely unless you experienced a shock. Permanent damage is uncertain; I'm inclined to think it's doubtful. If this was a genuine ESD event, some damage could have occurred.
