Then yeah, you should be fine with that board. That said, just know ther are cheaper boards that do this just fine as well. The first to come to mind is the MSI Pro X670-P, though that loses out on PCIe Gen 5 support (I.d argue that means nothing, but you do you if you really want it) and your bottom slot would be x2 rather than x4 (for a GPU that's a glorified display adapter, that doesn't mean much either). Slight astrisk on this, they offer 24 lanes from the IOD directly (16+4+4) then another 4 for the chipset, so 28 lanes total.

Consider using multiple M.2 or PCIe cards together with the X670 chipset for better performance. I discovered some capable models that could fit your needs, but I didn’t verify every detail—just checked the expansion slots. The Gigabyte version includes all middle expansion ports at full speed, see the specs here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X670...cification 260$ and https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X670E-GA...cification 280$. Another option is the ASUS X670E Creator Wi-Fi, which offers robust LAN capabilities. Even a powerful X670 might lose lanes when demand rises.

I hadn't considered the gen 4x4 link as a major issue, thank you. In my situation I don't usually push the full speeds of multiple gen 4 NVMe drives often (no RAID planned, just needing a lot of space), but if I ever end up with two drives connected to the CPU it should be enough. That sounds reasonable. The idea is that a 4090 would work with gen 4x8, and once bandwidth becomes an issue cards should move to gen 5 which would fix the problem. The board seemed interesting, but sadly the bottom x16 slot only supports two channels and gets disabled when using the fourth M.2 slot.

Not exactly a starboard unit, I didn't think AM5 upgraded it to 24+4 instead of 20+4... @sazrocks A few points to note, the chipset generally controls the rear I/O connections, something Gigabyte displays on their boards with a schematic: B650E AORUS MASTER (rev. 1.0) Support | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global Point, you could easily overload a PCIe 4.0 4x link depending on other peripherals you have.

That's not the whole picture though, there's a limitation in bandwidth to any chipset. PCIe 4.0 4x is easy to exceed.

Fair enough, but I need to know what you're doing with the WX 5100 that needs a minimum of x4 bandwidth. From your signature—especially the mention of the 9 monitors—and the fact you have a 4090 for compute tasks, it seems like the x2 bandwidth would be sufficient. The X670E Tomahawk could also work. The bottom slot only supports x2 bandwidth, but it shares bandwidth with the M.2 slot, and both drop to x2 Gen 4 when occupied. I didn’t include the word “correction” when I wrote this, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Its worth considering that you won't find a board on AM5 with the specifications you're looking for. What is possible though, adapting that M.2_3 that uses PCIe 5.0 4x from the IOD to a 16x slot at 4x and the bottom chipset wired 16x slot to an m.2 at 2x.

It looks like you're evaluating different GPU options for lane distribution. You found the Strix X670E-E to be a strong contender, offering similar performance with improved VRM, additional USB-C ports, and more Gen5 M2 slots. It was a good value at the time, especially compared to other models like the B650E. The design focuses on minimal sharing, and the X16 slot can split into x8/x4 if you use the third M2 slot. You can review more details here: the provided link.

It depends on what you're comparing. X670 might offer advantages, but it could also present a similar decision-making structure where trade-offs are involved.

In my view, when you're managing multiple PCIe 16x devices and two M.2 drives, HEDT makes sense. It hinges on the specific bandwidth needs of your setup, like the WX 5100 and the RTX 4090 performing well on PCIe 4.0 8x, rather than just a one-size-fits-all approach.
