My primary build is still having trouble after nearly six years. I switched from a 1080ti to a 7800 XT, but I’m still at around 40-50 FPS in BG3. It works, though it’s not the best. I mainly play AoE2, but I intend to try Cyberpunk 2077 soon this year. For productivity, I handle light video editing in Resolve and medium-to-heavy audio work in Reaper. Since rumors began last year, I’ve been thinking about adding a 5700X3D or 5800X3D to my B450 build as my main rig. However, prices here are not great. The 5700X3D is about $305 (USD), the 5800X3D around $340, and the 7800X3D about $435. For roughly $800, I could get a functional B650 board with solid DDR5 and the top gaming CPU available. In my view, these options would more than double my performance in BG3 and CP2077. I can afford the upgrade if I plan to stay in the game for another five years or so. Still, it’s a question of whether it’s worth it, especially with Zen 5 just around the corner.
I don't have current specifications. Could you clarify what you mean by "current specs"?
Updated my name but the main system runs Intel i7 8086K with EVGA Z370 Micro 16GB, Samsung B-die Sapphire Pulse RX 7800XT cooler, Noctua fans Corsair RM750x v2 and Fractal Meshify. The second setup includes: R5 3600 MSI B450i Gaming Plus, 16GB Samsung B-die MSI GTX 1080ti, Gaming X Cooler Master V650, and Fractal Meshify.

Hey, take a look at Baldur's Gate in rig 2—it usually runs smoother than the i7. Either way, a 5800X3D in rig 2 with the main would be a huge boost in upgrades. Don't let anything mislead you; chips still rank among the top 5 gaming CPUs (excluding the 14th gen since it's just the 13th gen and messes with rankings

I recently heard whispers about Zen 5 possibly arriving earlier than expected, which is why I was surprised it wasn't announced sooner. That's the challenge with surprise releases. If you're focused on gaming, now might be a better time to buy 7800X3D. It represents a significant increase. Don't stress over Zen 5—current AM4 models don't offer much long-term benefit. If you prefer saving a bit more upfront, consider switching to a lower-cost AM5 chip like the 7600X and add Zen 5 later when it comes out. The 7600X still performs well in gaming similar to the 5800X3D.
Thanks everyone. I would probably want to wait for a Zen 5 X3D chip, so that's a bit far in the future. Saving 160 dollars on a 7600X but having to spend 450 later (with uncertain recoup when selling) doesn't make sense either. In my local market, I can't count on prices going down much after the initial hype of a product has died down (sometimes prices go up as supply dries out). Seems like both 5800X3D and 7800X3D are valid options for a true upgrade. I'll keep that in mind!
