Current configuration: MSI B350 PC Mate AMD Ryzen 5 1600 MSI Radeon Vega 56 (likely one of the few with this setup) Corsair vengeance LPX 2666MHz 2x8GB Seasonic Snow Silent 650W 80+ platinum. Upgrading CPU to Ryzen 5 3600 is planned, but I need to understand the drawbacks of doing so. While B450 and newer 550 models are tuned for it, I'm curious about the impact of switching to the older Mobo.

The issue is that you might lose support for older processors after the BIOS flash. If the board doesn't update after the BIOS flash with the previous CPU, turn off power, reset the CMOS, and replace the processors. Reassemble and post should work fine. Some features may change or disappear when switching to a newer model. This is expected. Good luck!
