What's the honest safe range that you would recommend? Trying to clock it past 4.5GHz. The boost clock stock at times will peak to around 1.43v, just worried about long term silicon degradation.

Conditions seem manageable as long as temperatures stay within normal ranges. I’d become more concerned around 1.48 to 1.50 where there could be noticeable long-term effects.

Attempting to maintain 4.5GHz at 1.425v stability. CPU-Z consistently reports a core clock that's 10MHz lower than the BIOS setting. Keeping temperatures below 85°C is something many recommend.

It's simply a BIOS adjustment—just increase the CPU speed by 10 MHz in the BIOS settings if you need that display value. Thermal throttling typically begins around 85°C, so it makes sense not to push beyond that temperature.

Interesting! Thanks for the details. It’s been helpful, especially with the OC contest work. I’m experimenting to see if a 10MHz boost makes a difference. CPU-Z shows lower readings, so I’ll try pushing the clock up. HWINFO does mention thermal throttling, but I’m not sure it applies here—my temps dropped significantly even at 4.5GHz. The chips seem to prefer cooler operation. My 7700K ran hot in liquid cooling, and pushing past 4.5GHz isn’t ideal. It’s only a 300MHz increase from boost, which isn’t much. I guess keeping things chill is the best approach.

Ryzen 3000 struggles with high overclocks. AMD has been maximizing performance on their 1000, 2000, and 3000 series chips, making boost clocks rare. You might have had a bit of bad luck with the silicone selection. The Wraith Prism is better suited for getting the system running without pushing it too far. Nice choice! The 7700k was an excellent option.

Interesting observation. The results confirm it. Placing the rad in ice water helps. At -30°C, the 2700X runs smoothly with a 20c load, achieving 4ghz at 1.188v. Cold temperatures significantly cut leakage. At room temperature, the same chip operates at 4.1ghz but requires 1.410v.

I'm thinking about creating a 1151 socket rig once more as an original content project. The 7700K really impressed me—OCXD worked well even on my Z270! I'll catch up soon. Real bench runs are around 10°C hotter, even without AVX enabled. I won't risk the extra power usage affecting my VRMS, it's not worth the risk.
