Hello, I'm assembling a brand new budget PC using older components and wanted to know if it's possible to push my Xeon X5675 to higher speeds with the HP Z400 Workstation Motherboard. Some advice suggested a potentially dangerous firmware update for the motherboard, but I'm curious about safer alternatives. I'm willing to accept the risk of rendering my board inoperable if it fails. Additionally, I don't have concerns about power supply capacity or cooling solutions since I already have a Corsair CX430 and a CoolerMaster MLW-D12M-A18PC-R2 water cooler. Your 430-watt power source is no longer sufficient. You probably need a more powerful one.
Impossible without changes you shouldn't make. Focus on PSU wattage and be careful with the one you have, as it’s known to damage systems and is quite outdated. You’re already putting a lot of strain on it.
Is that power supply really that bad? I didn’t think it was that old because it’s still available on the official Corsair site. I owned this PSU since my CX500 failed, so I bought this one for $50 from a friend as soon as possible. It was either this model or an Orion-branded one that forums warned against using.
If you try to overclock? No. The X5670 draws 95W. 750 Ti equals about 300W. Adding your 95W gives roughly 395W. That means an extra 15W for other components. Running at 410/430% is essentially 95%. At the original price, you're using nearly all the PSU capacity. Overclocking will cause overdraw. You'll need a more powerful PSU.
None of these cx series labels are recognized for consistently breaking systems unpredictably. They can cause significant damage if they get the chance.
