Checking MSI GL63 8SE laptop performance details Looking for the best place to find this information
I purchased an MSI GL63 8SE for my university course (the exact date is fuzzy). For those unfamiliar with the model, it features an Intel i7-8750h with RTX 2060/2080 graphics, 16GB RAM, a 1TB hard drive and a 120GB SSD. My machine usually works well but the fan behaves unpredictably when I run desktop apps or Chrome. I often need to tweak Nvidia control panel settings to hit around 50fps in certain titles, and even Team Fortress 2 struggled at 40fps on auto-detect. I tend to cap performance at 60fps because of my 60Hz display. It’s puzzling why many games seem to have trouble with these specs despite the good drivers and regular updates.
I share the same CPU in my Razer Blade, and it behaves identically on the desktop. For gaming performance, I recommend lowering the CPU voltage to around -0.125; it saved power and kept things cooler. The 40fps in Team Fortress feels off—do you have MSI Afterburner installed to test your GPU's boost?
Reducing the voltage slightly improved fan noise and CPU temperature. It maintained a consistent frame rate around 55–59 FPS (using Nvidia control, previous performance) and kept the system at about 75 degrees in Quake Champions.
