The process depends on your setup. If you upgrade Windows 8 and keep it installed, you can retain ownership without needing to reinstall Windows 8 before upgrading to Windows 10. Formatting your PC won’t require re-downloading Windows 10 unless you’re replacing the OS entirely. The serial number from Windows 8 may not automatically convert to a valid Windows 10 key, but it could be used in some cases depending on the system requirements.
That makes sense. Perhaps I'll delay purchasing a Windows key and opt for an OEM version once it becomes available. Appreciate the response.
You might have found a deal by purchasing an older version at a lower price and then upgrading later.
Ensure it's an authentic operating system; otherwise, it may function. Pricing for Windows 10 is reportedly around $130! I’m not sure if Microsoft mentioned a retail cost.
I noticed those Newegg prices on another subject this morning. I thought maybe around 130$, though it could be a little lower, or the 130$ might refer to the Pro version.
You can maintain a streamlined version of 8.1 with all updates on the disc and use it to install, after which the upgrade becomes simple. Still, I favor a genuine key for 10—it saves time and avoids the hassle of switching between two operating systems each time I reinstall. Thank you for Windows Image!
It seems the price is listed at $109, and the release is scheduled for the end of August in 2015.
