I'm just starting with overclocking and I aim for the AMD FX-8320 to reach 4.2 GHz on my ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer. So far, I've increased the multiplier until it reached 4.2 GHz and adjusted the voltage to 1.3V. Is there anything else I need to disable or modify? I prefer minimal changes and just want the CPU to run at 4.2 GHz smoothly.

The key is maintaining proper cooling. Check for adequate airflow, liquid cooling, or a well-designed air heatsink. Use a temperature monitor to observe temperatures during operation and adjust accordingly.

Hello StarChief. I didn't mention that in the original post, but I did update it. My CPU cooler is Hyper 212 Evo. According to Specsy, it reaches 50 degrees Celsius after 20 minutes of Prime95 stress testing.

Hello StarChief. I didn't mention anything about that in the post, but I did update it. I'm using a Hyper 212 Evo as my CPU cooler. The specs say 50 degrees Celsius after 20 minutes of Prime95 stress testing. That's impressive—50°C for such a big performance boost and with that cooler. It really shows you're in good shape.

Alright, thanks. There seems to be something unusual happening. Speccy is displaying spikes in the temperature every few seconds. I checked with CPU-Z and found that after 2-3 seconds, the core speed drops from 4190.75 MHz (4.2 GHz) to 1.4 GHz. Is this typical behavior for Prime95 or does it indicate a problem?

I don't understand how prime95 functions, but a better test would be using something you play regularly and monitoring the temperature. Ideally, something intense like Witcher or GTA V.

In your view, there should be no adjustments to other settings.

It's been 7 months since you asked, and is your computer still running smoothly? I'm just starting out with overclocking and have a similar configuration.
