Hi everyone, I own a late 2019 Dell XPS 8930 with 64GB RAM. I’m planning to add an upgraded GPU (RX6600) and a power supply increase from 450W to 750W or more. My main tasks include photo/video editing (Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere), Twitch streaming, and light gaming for parties and occasional Sims. I’m noticing slight slowdowns but nothing severe. The CPU is an i9-9900 (9th Gen Intel, 8-core, 16MB cache, up to 5GHz). I’m considering whether it’s worth upgrading the CPU right now. Since I’ve never done this before, I’m sure I can handle it myself, but I’m unsure if it’s practical or worthwhile at the moment. I usually replace my computer every five years, which would put it around early 2025. Extending its life would be great.

However, there are quicker CPUs available in those sockets, such as the 9900K and 9900KS. They offer only marginal improvements and need a superior motherboard to use them effectively. The investment in time, effort, or price on eBay isn't justified. To make a real upgrade, you'd also need to replace the motherboard—possibly along with RAM—making a complete rebuild more practical.
