My build specifications include 9800x3d, 9070 xt, MSI x870e, three MVMe drives, AIO 360, 11x 120mm RGB fans, and it runs on a 2023 (Black, light Grey label. NOT Orange) TX650m. The wall system draws 380w during normal use, drops to under 400w while gaming at 4k, and stays close to that with brief spikes reaching up to 442w in two weeks of testing. This is CPU/GPU maximum core testing with AIDA64, Prim95 (small), etc.; both the CPU and GPU are set to -20 on the BIOS curve, while the GPU uses Adrenaline mode. The power supply has a negative 20 setting in the BIOS, and lowering it to 220w brings total usage down to around 300w during gaming. Before applying -20 UV settings, my system consumed 10-20w more at peak.
As an electrical engineer, I rely on Fluke multimeters and oscilloscopes (Fluke 190-504 gen 3) for all measurements, along with a Victron Smart shunt (all logged). I generate and sell my own power, so I’m confident in the setup. Corsair’s PSU has a 2x transient rating, recommending a 1300w (1.3KW) unit for spikes—this is why I’m confident in its safety.
This model has already been tested in this group, which confirms it’s a highly rated PSU, provided it lacks an orange label or is older than 4/5 years.
If you’re particularly concerned, consider purchasing a basic plug-in wall power meter or monitor—good options like the "WATTMAN" cost just £10-20 and won’t worry you about 400%+ spikes.
Ps, using an oscilloscope without proper mains voltage knowledge isn’t recommended.
yes it has black and light grey labels, not the orange ones, but since i bought it in may 2020 it feels a bit old. so lowering the gpu draw to 220w might not hurt performance much? p.s. currently i play in 1080p but could switch to 2k later, does that change power consumption?
