Hello,
I recently installed a new PC with the specifications listed and noticed that my GPU remains stuck in PCI 5.0 x4 mode, as indicated by BIOS, HWinfo, and GPU-Z. Screenshots are attached below.
View: https://imgur.com/a/lUNTerE
For reference, the GPU is located in the top PCI x16 slot, and I also have an M.2 NVMe drive that goes into the M2A_CPU slot. According to Gigabyte, bandwidth sharing via PCI Express only happens when both M2B_CPU and M2C_CPU are active, which shouldn’t be a problem.

The BIOS notes:
"1 x PCI Express x16 slot (PCIEX16), integrated in the CPU:
AMD Ryzen™ 9000/7000 Series Processors support PCIe 5.0 x16 mode
* The M2B_CPU and M2C_CPU connectors share bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot.
When the M2B_CPU or M2C_CPU connector is populated, the PCIEX16 slot operates at up to x8 mode."

Any advice would be very helpful.
Additionally, I’d like to know if such issues are always hardware-related or could stem from a faulty driver.

Details:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 AORUS Elite WIFI7
- BIOS Version: F4
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800 X3D
- RAM: Kingdston Fury 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 Beast Black XMP
- GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming OC
- Driver: 576.40
- SSD: Kingston 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe KC3000
- Power Supply: be quiet! Straight Power 12 1000W 80 Plus Platinum

Thanks.

Mobo: Gigabyte AORUS Elite WIFI7 BIOS Update Notice: F4
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X87...support#dl
There is a pending BIOS update available.
Regarding the BIOS, if the PCIe slot for the GPU is set to auto, check if there are settings to switch it to PCIe 5.0.
Also, inquiries about whether such problems are always hardware issues or can stem from a faulty driver.
Does the performance of your GPU change when running demanding games or benchmarking tools?

Yes, I switched from Auto to Gen 5 and it still displays as PCIe 5.0 x16 @ 5.0 x4. I also experimented with Gen 4 but the BIOS shows PCIe 5.0 x16 @ 4.0 x4.
The GPU-Z render test confirms the same result.

I checked my system and GPU-Z, which shows a render test with PCIe x 16 5.0 @ x4 5.0. When the test isn't active, it reports PCIe x 16 5.0 @ x4 1.1, likely because of power-saving settings. It seems I might only need four lanes of PCIe 5 bandwidth.

I didn't mention the chipset of my mobo is X870. I've updated the main post.
It's unclear if that's the reason, but it seems more users with RTX 5000 cards might be puzzled about their performance at x4 speed.
Also, checking this random person's screenshot shows their RTX 5080 works at x16.

Your right it should be using the full 16 lanes during heavy loads. I think the thing to do is check for a bios update for the motherboard and remove the card, clean the contacts on the card and the slot (if that is possible?) and reseat the card.

I've reviewed discussions around this subject and discovered various approaches others have tried, such as:
Swapping out the graphics card
Updating the memory
Reinstalling the CPU
Swapping the motherboard

Or perhaps it's the BIOS after all.
The article references Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7 and notes that the F5a BIOS is intended to resolve the PCI lanes problem. The main point is that before the update, the active lanes stayed steady at x4, but now they fluctuate with each system restart.

I noticed you referenced updating the bios before, though I thought you'd already completed that.
