I didn't observe a significant change whether it's on or off, probably because my hearing isn't very sharp. The tape doesn't cover the mic holes properly; instead, the paper is just resting in front of it. I do this to conceal my webcam, but I make sure the paper isn't pressing the tape against the holes.
Does this usually result in reduced audio input?

Audio OUTPUT? It doesn't affect the result at all. Consider playing a game and using your microphone—nothing changes the audio output. These two are completely separate.

Sound vibrations can move via stone. One piece of paper is insufficient to block them.

The webcam coverage has spiraled out of control LOL. We’ve seen computers return from a deli with their cameras covered, sitting in corners where they only see slicing equipment and ham. People should be 40 times more concerned about the other things they post online than about someone hacking a webcam for remote viewing.

I understand, usually I try to reduce anxiety but I keep it up just in case unless I need to use my webcam and microphone often.
