The issue is finding a board that satisfies all needs without needing three replacements. The AM5 price is roughly double the AM4 cost, offering more lanes and PCIe5, but adding unnecessary power delivery feels like buying only longer cars when expansion isn't essential.

It's unlikely better VRMs account for more than a small fraction of the issue. Manufacturers noted that the main factors were increased PCB layers and the intricacy of PCIe5 communication.
