Checking if audio skips, stutters, or repeats on a laptop running Windows 11 24H2 after upgrading.
After upgrading to this Windows 11 version, I've encountered several problems, including icons disappearing and audio skipping during gameplay. Previously, the system would crash to the desktop while on the main menu. After disabling Steam overlay and applying the Windows 7 compatibility settings, I could load into the game without issues, but now I experience random audio stuttering that repeats the same track—similar to those old Windows XP crashes.
Despite these challenges, I can still play the game. I've tried enabling DirectPlay and added the entire game folder to my allowlist using Avast AV. Some users suggested turning off Game Mode, which I also did.
Windows 10 didn't have these issues at the moment. My internal SSD is missing its thermal paste, making it difficult to fix the Windows 11 installation completely. However, I've applied all updates from my ASUS OEM website and performed a DDU clean install of NVIDIA drivers along with AMD.
Please let me know if you have any advice.
After upgrading to this Windows 11 version, I noticed that Windows 10 lacked these features. If the upgrade involved using the internal path, you'll need to reinstall Windows 11 via a bootable USB installer. Ensure your system is running the latest BIOS settings before installing the OS offline. Install all necessary drivers during this offline phase, then proceed with the update once connected.
I just downloaded the Windows 11 installer (MediaCreationTool), either created an ISO inside it or upgraded directly. I didn't need any USB drives. Don't misunderstand, the OS works mostly fine; it's just regular Microsoft updates that sometimes cause issues. I managed to postpone them using the "xxxxx delay" feature.
I also noticed the "System" section keeps updating on the SSD, as shown in the Task Manager.
You should explain all of your system so that people might understand what the issue is.
Do you have an internal disk right now? is it the ssd? Is windows on internal disk? What is the external disk and how is it connected?
ASUS Zephyrus G15 (2022) GA503RM, Ryzen 7 6900HX, RTX 3070 6gigs, Windows 11. 16GB DDR4. Internal laptop SSD WD SN735 with newest firmware. External Samsung T7 SSD connected through USB 3.1 port.
Ghelper,MS Clipchamp,OBS,Witcher 3,Hwinfo plus system itself installed on internal laptop SSD. A few additional games are available on the Samsung T7. Avast AV is running on the system SSD. Armoury Crate was continuously writing files to my laptop SSD, so I removed it as SSD HEALTH is at 96%, which matches the dashboard software indicating WD/sandisk.
(Windows 10 was reinstalled multiple times; currently running Win11 24h2, and the RDR2 game was uninstalled periodically from the system SSD. This likely contributed to a slight drop in CPU health percentage.)
CPU temperature reduced to 29W on Ghelper, with CPU turbo boost disabled to enhance cooling. Maintained 60Hz display for consistent performance, as the battery adapter becomes warm. Selected Better Performance at the power settings page in Win11.
Monthly SSD optimization was performed via Optimize Drives in Windows 11. Although setting the slider to 29W didn’t significantly improve cooling, internal temperatures stayed around 60°C, which is acceptable.
Disabled Windows Event Log service services.msc; it didn’t perform any actions as it frequently wrote data, possibly due to my tendency to limit writes. Maybe I was unsure. I’m a control freak, so reducing write activity helps. Age of Empires 2 help is also appreciated.
