I received a phone from the Lifeline service "Airtalk Wireless," a free government phone line in the U.S. I completed the payment and no longer use it. I considered selling it as an unlocked device. Their support chat says their phones are locked and they "can't assure" compatibility with other networks. However, I ran an IMEI check on Tracfone, Verizon Prepaid, T Mobile Prepaid, and a few others, all confirming compatibility with their services. I suspect it's an S8+ from Spectrum since their logo appears when the device boots. It seems AirTalk may purchase devices from other manufacturers. The phone was listed as used.

If the carrier confirms it's locked, that's the status. The IMEI scan indicates compatibility with their network but doesn't confirm unlock status. Contact the carrier directly by phone and inquire about unlocking options, which might be available at no cost.

these complimentary mobile numbers are typically tied to older CDMA or VMNO providers, even if they’re paid off. however, only someone using that specific carrier can verify it.
