It claims to operate at 60 frames per second in 1080p ultra resolution using a single GTX 980. I’m just wondering what others think about this, especially given my limited understanding of SLI scaling and resolution.

It seems like the 4K gaming experience is still in development.

It seems you're questioning the value of playing at 30 frames per second. The answer depends on your goals—lower FPS can improve performance, reduce lag, and enhance smoothness for certain tasks.

4K gaming is certainly on the horizon; the Titan X is built to handle 4K resolution.

Check the specifications for the R9 300 to understand its capabilities for 4K gaming performance.

It's unlikely. The Witcher series is praised for its visual quality, yet it demands significant performance due to that polish. I’d suggest medium-high settings, rather than the highest.

I support playing most titles at 4K on my original Titan within SLI. The 980 resolution should work fine.

nobody understands it well. I’d pick a Titan X instead of the sli 980s.

The issue lies in the 'ultra' setting. Pushing it too high will make performance extremely challenging, even with powerful hardware. Reducing the settings slightly (keeping them high but using more conservative filters) provides a solid FPS improvement—typically 10 to 20 frames or more on demanding games. Adding a third GPU isn't advised, as most titles won't benefit from it properly.
