Hello everyone, I hope everyone has a great day and remains safe. I tried installing Fedora on an Asus core i3-2330M laptop, which is typically used for schoolwork and other tasks, with only 2GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD that still holds Windows 7. It worked fine until now, but I’m currently in the middle of installing software and have resized one of my Windows partitions to free up about 20GB. The main questions are: 1. Can I slowly add more storage for Fedora later? 2. How long did the partition resize take after starting the installation? 3. If I decide to fully switch over, should I delete the Windows files first and look for resizing guides? 4. What’s the best way to safely move all data from Windows to Fedora? I’m using a 32GB SD card on my phone for FTP transfers so far, which seems to be functioning well. Thanks for your attention!

Many recommendations depend on the amount of data your machine can hold. If it fits entirely on the 32GB SD card, keep it there and reset the system by installing Linux across the whole drive. While Fedora works, other options like Mint, Mandriva, and OpenSuse are better for beginners. Debian/Devuan, Slackware, and Gentoo/Funtoo suit more advanced users, though Debian/Devuan can also work for newcomers—just note their installer isn’t as focused on simplicity as a graphical interface.

Hey there! Glad you found the info useful. At first I planned to respond right away, but I thought a quick informational reply would be enough. Now that you mentioned, I’ve been dealing with a grub filesystem error lately. After about three days of stable use, things got tricky—testdisk failed again and the /dev/sda3 partition is nearly empty. Right now I’m stuck using only a Live USB, so I’m trying to back up my data on Linux before wiping Fedora and testing another distro.

About System76 Pop OS—sounds great for someone used to GUI, but since it’s based on Ubuntu, does it collect data too? You’ve really caught me in the beginner Linux zone!
