I noticed suddenly my fn+brightness shortcut stopped working and wasn't available in the settings. After searching for solutions that didn't appear in the settings, I thought a Windows update might be the cause. When I checked, it was indeed a major update, not the quick 2-minute ones. Updating my screen brightness keys restored everything. It felt confusing because there was no warning or clear notification about the update. Without prior info, I had to manually verify, which took time. If I weren't so observant, I'd blame Microsoft or the manufacturer for not responding quickly, or even consider a replacement due to a defect. I'm still unsure if this is truly the cause or just a glitch. I usually keep my system updated regularly.

Your query asks about brightness control settings. It explains how GPU drivers affect screen brightness, compares different methods used by various manufacturers, and highlights the challenges of compatibility across operating systems and hardware configurations.

According to what I understand, Control Panel includes Fn key configurations. The issue seems to be that Microsoft is removing Control Panel from Windows, which is causing problems. Here’s a screenshot of those settings.

Dell enhanced the Mobility Center with this feature. The interface allows adding items through the Settings panel, though guidance remains unclear. It appears Dell is the primary provider of this tool. There seems to be limited adoption, possibly due to Microsoft possibly phasing it out. While not officially supported, it’s still functional and retains the XP help icon. All related options are easily reachable from adjacent system panels, such as the System tray or notification area.

All functionality works perfectly, just like before the update. It can be quite bothersome when attempting to watch a film, play games, make calls, or work.
