The Ryzen 5 2400G remains useful in 2023 for demanding tasks. For your needs—heavy web use, gaming at 1080p with high FPS, and occasional premium video editing—the next step would be upgrading to a more powerful processor like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D or an AMD Ryzen 9 series.

For gaming, the performance relies a lot on the specific games you play. A 2400G can maintain 60fps in many eSports titles, but it struggles with newer AAA games at 1080p.

Yes, but I’d consider a 5600G if the motherboard supports it or has a BIOS upgrade that enables it. The 5600G will significantly improve performance in games, though it won’t match even a solid graphics card. Still, for your typical tasks, the 2400G works just fine. You can still use older hardware in the office for those jobs. Just keep in mind to ensure sufficient RAM is installed. For better long-term support, 16GB is advisable when many tabs and background apps are active.

The 5600G provides a noticeable boost mainly for CPU-intensive games. Its Vega 7 graphics run faster with slight design tweaks, though they don’t surpass the Vega 12 in the 2400G. Performance can dip in some older titles.

Ryzen 5 5600 paired with a graphics card is ideal. An RX 6600 would be excellent choice.

Will you receive a graphics card? You could install a 5800X3D if you need a GPU, and it should run smoothly without PCIe 4.0.

I'll wait until you've done that first. You'll benefit more from a graphics card in games than from a new CPU.

It varies based on your needs. For esports and lighter games, 1080p at 60fps might work well, especially with lower settings. More recent, demanding titles won’t run smoothly. The 2400g chip is solid, and from a GPU perspective it outperforms many Intel options. Still, the APU has limits, especially with older hardware like a 4-year-old system.

I'm using the Ryzen 5 5600X with a GTX 3070 8GB. It's powerful – handles all my high-end graphics configurations effortlessly.
