Hello guys, I've a 8gb ddr3 1866mhz but my motherboard underclock it to 1600mhz and I'm thinking about buying another 8gb stick but the same frequency module is not available 8gb 1600mhz is available, should I go with it or buy 1866mhz I'm kind of confused. Reply will be appreciated.

In 1866 you’d probably need to push your system to overclocking on certain boards. The gap between 1600 and 1866 is minimal. You could also purchase a different board with the 1600 speed and it would work just as well.

What model is this? Matching parts isn't always certain. If it can handle 1866, using a 1600 stick should keep everything at 1600. If the board caps speeds at 1600, then a 1866 stick will also run at 1600. Ideally, choose a stick with matching specifications or an identical one if available.

If you can't get a 1600MHz stick, a standard one should still function. However, TofuHaruto mentioned it isn't guaranteed to work.

Consider the options carefully. Your motherboard only supports up to 8GB DDR3 at 1600MHz, while your current RAM runs at 1866MHz and is already underclocked.

Preferably use the same type of stick or one with identical specifications; otherwise, a 1600MHz unit should suffice because both will measure 1600. Keep in mind that combining different sticks might succeed or fail.

Both Corsair and other brands offer similar performance, so sticking to the same specs works well.

Use similar sticks with matching frequencies and timing. If needed, a 1600 stick can handle it. Otherwise, mixing sticks might not be effective.

Consider alternatives carefully. Evaluate other brands and ensure compatibility with your 1600MHz setup.
