Checking compatibility for Z270 + 9900k
Your current motherboard is the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Code Z270. You recently bought a new GPU and decided to upgrade your CPU as well. I ordered a 9900K, but it looks like it might not fit your existing motherboard. I’m seeking advice on whether your board is compatible. If it is, that’s great. If not, I’d appreciate suggestions for options in the $300 to $600 range. I’m not aiming for a water cooler and may use SLI, with mainly music and gaming tasks. Thanks for any help!
The CPU doesn't fit the motherboard unless you attempt BIOS modifications; otherwise this query wouldn't arise. I'd likely choose a z390-Aorus Ultra. It seems like a reliable board, perfect for overclocking the i9. Or the 3900X/3950X would work well for music production (though not ideal for gaming).
SLI is no longer available in most games and isn't worth the effort. The Z390 Aorus Ultra remains a solid choice, working well with my 8700k and supporting stable speeds up to 5.2GHz at 1.33V (though I managed to win the lottery).
Thanks for the kind words! I’ll focus on understanding the distinction between Ultra and master models.
If you are interested in reading about older boards to 8th/9th gen CPU's: (Not that I would recommend doing this... At all. Very possible to brick a board). The Master is just a bit more luxurious board. Z390 Aorus Ultra vs. Master: - Master has better audio DAC - Master has a reset/power switch on the back - Oh, they look different. Similar, but the Master is a bit darker. Otherwise pretty similar boards.
I'm about to trigger one of the Aorus boards and pass my current rig to my younger sibling. He's getting his 1080 Ti too. I'm hoping he'll break something. I'm tempted by the Aorus Extreme board, but it's really pricey. Do you think there'll be any Black Friday or Cyber Monday discounts?
