Windows applies formatting automatically. For plain text, open it in Notepad first. Matching styles likely indicate they were stripped, and the tool handles it without them.

I believe in windows the feature you are talking about is paste and paste without formatting. Paste just pastes what you copied and paste without formatting pastes it in the same format/style as the document or whatever you are putting it into. Sorry about quality of picture I couldn't screenshot the right hand menu. This may also come under names such as "paste as normal text."
