Hello everyone, I hope everything is going well for you! Please stay safe and healthy. Your thoughts mean a lot to me—I understand many of you have a solid grasp of PC components. That’s why I wanted to post this update and gather your feedback. As you probably know, there’s a lot of excitement around the RTX 3000 series, so I’m also keeping an eye on it. However, my main concern is whether my i9 7900x will be limited by the new GPUs like the RTX 3090 or 3080. Feel free to share your opinions!

Make sure it's well-optimized. A speed of 4.6Ghz or 4.7Ghz should work.

It depends on your goals—high FPS is possible with some overclocking, as mentioned. For 4K with detailed graphics or games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, performance remains solid.

It may struggle with flight simulation even at 4K, especially on CPU-intensive systems. At 1080p it might work fine, but 1440p or 4K could cause issues.

Wait for the 3090 to be released and evaluate its performance and stability with a 7900X. The 7900X, particularly with an overclock, should still perform well for gaming, especially at higher resolutions, though results may vary. Keep checking as time passes.

I believe much of the issue hinges on the game itself. I'm running on a 7920X with 2070, using just one title—mostly in FFXIV. At 1440p, I noticed occasional frame drops when CPU stock was low. Turning off HT eliminated the drops, and disabling 4 cores further raised my average FPS. It seems this game prioritizes fast cores over having many cores. Cutting core count even more pushed it up to 4.0 GHz. A manual overclock would have worked too, but modern games likely handle that better.

It shows minimal impact on performance, especially for someone using it casually rather than for heavy tasks.

There’s no scenario or details provided, so it won’t cause a problem with the card remaining idle on the desktop

Likely only if the game required a powerful CPU (I believe it was CPU-intensive).
